When Samantha’s daughter moved into a bigger bedroom, the family was left with a small, cluttered room ready for a new chapter. What was once a crowded kid’s bedroom — packed with storage bins, leftover toys, and mismatched furniture — now needed to become a masculine, stylish home office for Samantha’s husband.

Samantha wanted the new office to feel cozy yet edgy, masculine but not cold. The room itself, however, presented challenges: its 10′ x 14′ footprint felt tight, the existing closet doors and trim didn’t match the vision, and Samantha wanted to incorporate a massive computer monitor, bookshelves, and their iconic black Eames lounge chair — all without crowding the space.
That’s where Seeded designer Nicolle came in, crafting a design that would elevate the small footprint into a functional, refined retreat that worked as beautifully as it looked.
A Bold First Impression

The star of the room is a vertical wood slat accent wall behind the desk, adding warmth, dimension, and texture. Framed by Benjamin Moore’s Onyx on the trim and closet doors, the palette brings drama without overwhelming the small footprint.
A sleek wooden desk with black metal legs anchors the space, paired with a supportive ergonomic chair for long workdays. Above, a brass-and-white sculptural chandelier draws the eye upward, making the ceilings feel taller.
Storage Meets Style

To balance function and style, Nicolle introduced black-framed glass bookcases with interior lighting, creating a sleek backdrop for Samantha’s collection of modern art and books. These pieces add height and structure, making the room feel more spacious and organized.
The family’s classic black Eames lounge chair and ottoman now occupy a cozy corner by the window. Layered neutral drapery filters natural light, while brass lighting fixtures and a minimal side table add softness and comfort — perfect for morning coffee or evening unwinding.
The Finished Look
With its moody palette, layered textures, and purposeful furniture placement, Nicolle transformed a once-cluttered kid’s room into a refined home office that feels polished and personal. The result is a space where Samantha’s husband can focus, recharge, and actually enjoy spending time — all in a room that now feels completely its own.
