But it still didn’t feel like home.
“It doesn’t feel like a home yet. There’s no place to sit and relax or work.”
That disconnect is more common than it seems. A space can look beautiful but still feel unfinished without intention behind how it’s lived in. The goal wasn’t to simply fill the apartment, but to shape it into something calm, functional, and personal.

Defining the Direction: Two Spaces, Two Distinct Moods
For the living room, Cristina proposed a direction that leaned into something more layered and expressive.

This approach embraced a curated aesthetic where each piece feels intentional. Instead of strict minimalism, it introduced visual interest through artwork, varied textures, and sculptural furniture. The goal was to create a space that felt warm, lived-in, and ready to host.
This direction aligned closely with how Igor planned to use the room. It needed to be flexible, welcoming, and comfortable for guests.
The Bedroom Direction: Minimal, Moody, and Calm
For the bedroom, the approach shifted.
Minimal. Moody. Calm.
A restrained palette created a sense of quiet. Soft neutrals, subtle contrast, and tactile materials brought depth without visual noise. The intention here was different from the living space. This room was about slowing down.
Everything worked together to create a grounded, restful environment.
From Ideas to Reality: Designing With Clarity
The living room concept translated the mood into real furniture, materials, and layout decisions.
With the directions set, Cristina developed concept boards that translated the mood into real-world decisions.
Materials, proportions, and layout began to take shape. A sculptural dark coffee table introduced contrast. Light upholstery softened the palette. Woven textures and natural materials added warmth without clutter.
But the real challenge wasn’t just aesthetic. It was functional.
Igor needed the living room to support multiple uses: a comfortable place to relax, a setup for working from home, flexibility for guests staying overnight, and potential space for dining.
Through iteration, the layout was carefully zoned to maintain openness while supporting multiple uses. Nothing felt forced, and nothing felt crowded.
Then came the turning point.
Seeing everything in 3D.
The Living Room: Minimal, Functional, and Warm
The final living room feels effortless, but every detail is intentional.
A neutral sofa anchors the space without competing with the view. Sculptural chairs introduce structure while keeping the layout open. A dark, rounded coffee table grounds the room visually.
A textured rug softens the darker flooring and adds subtle depth.
Lighting plays a key role. Warm lamps create a softer atmosphere than overhead lighting alone, helping the space shift from bright and minimal during the day to relaxed and inviting at night.
Natural elements like plants and organic materials bring life into the room without disrupting the clean aesthetic.
The balcony is also treated as an extension of the space, reinforcing the connection to the outdoors and making the most of the apartment’s strongest feature.
The Bedroom: A Space to Unwind
In the bedroom, the restraint paid off.
Soft layers, tonal contrast, and thoughtful lighting created a space that feels calm without feeling flat. The darker accents added depth, while the neutral base kept the room feeling light and cohesive.
It’s a space designed to disconnect.
Symmetry in lighting and furniture placement reinforced a sense of calm.
The space remains intentionally free of a TV, allowing it to function as a true place to unwind. At night, warm lighting and soft textures shift the mood into something more intimate and restful.
